Lincoln in Leavenworth, Kansas by Martin Leo Pyle
Abraham Lincoln made a trip to the Kansas Territory in 1859. It was widely reported that Lincoln made numerous speeches while visiting Kansas in December of 1859 including one at Stockton Hall in Leavenworth.
Lincoln reportedly used this trip to Kansas to work on the messages that he would eventually deliver in his famous speech at the Cooper Union in New York City on February 27th of 1860 - only two months after visiting Kansas.
