Lincoln by George Gray Barnard
This highly controversial image of Lincoln can be located in Lytle Park in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. Additonal copies of this unusual work can be found in Louisville, Kentucky and Manchester, England.
This is Lincoln as the western rustic lawyer. His clothes are ill fitting and he is not particularly attractive with large hands and feet. Barnard's Lincoln is ofter called the "Belly Ache Lincoln" due to the unusual postioning of the hands at his stomach and taahe somewhat dour look on his face.
When first unveiled many critics found Barnards statue of Lincoln to be a "monstrosity". Lincoln's son Robert Todd Lincoln, launched a very public campaign damning the piece.
